April 2006, President George Bush saw a documentary about marine life in the Hawaiian Islands that struck a particular chord. Less than two months later, he designated 139,000 square miles of marine habitat as the 75th National Monument. Because we believe in the power of the documentary to shape policy, our current project is our most ambitious yet, a historical account of the decimation of Pacific Salmon and Steelhead.
